Los Angeles: Spotify is launching new features to help you connect with friends. Now, you can see what songs your friends are listening to in real time. You can also start “Jams” to listen to music together.

To use this, go to Settings and turn on “listening activity.” After that, you can see friends’ activity in your Messages chats. When you tap on a friend’s track, you can play it or react with an emoji.

If you want to start a Jam, Premium users can tap the “Jam” button. When your friend accepts, they will host, and both of you can add songs to a shared playlist.

These features are coming to iOS and Android apps soon. They should be available widely by early February 2026. All users can see listening activity, but only Premium users can host Jams. Free users can join if invited.

Spotify is focusing more on social tools to keep users in the app. They first launched Messages in August 2025. This change lets users share more inside the app instead of outside links.

Currently, you can only send messages to users you have chatted with before. Your messages are safe but are not fully protected by end-to-end encryption.
